Brave Emily fights for mum

Maciu Malo
Monday, December 10, 2012

EVERY new day brings joy and tears for young Emily and her mum Marion Ishmael not knowing what the future has in store for them.

Eleven-year-old Emily is a cancer patient at Lautoka Hospital who was referred from Vanuatu six months ago.

In an interview at the hospital, an emotional Mrs Ishmael said she never lost hope on her daughter.

She said most people labelled cancer as a 'killer' but she believed her angel would recover from cancer and continue with her education.

She has been away from her husband for the past six months and wanted to give all her support, love and care to their daughter.

"We wake up each morning with tears of joy knowing we have survived to see the light of a new day," Mrs Ishmael said.

"We don't know what the future holds for my precious daughter because of the cancer that has haunted her life and our family. I never believed that my daughter will be diagnosed with cancer and despite what people think about cancer, I am positive that my angel will survive," she said.

Mrs Ishmael said she would sit by Emily's hospital bed and talk, and she would encourage her to be strong.

"I always try to be strong on the outside but my daughter doesn't know that I'm crying on the inside thinking of her and our future," she said.
