SWAMI Vivekananda College student Shavil Prasad took out the 2012 Junior Golf Championship sponsored by the National Golf Association of Fiji at the Nadi Airport Golf Club yesterday.
Shavil, who will attend Form Four next year, was declared overall winner of the one-day event.
He carded 81 to win the A-grade gross. Earlier this year, the 14-year old won the overall nett title during the Western Open in Lautoka.
He claimed the second nett prize during the Vatukoula Open and the B grade nett prize during the Vatukoula Classic.
Shavil also presented the western team during the annual East versus West challenge.
The youngster was happy to cap the junior season on a high note.
He said the aim was to better his performance next year.
"To end the season with a win is certainly a morale booster heading into the new golf season next year," the youngster said.
"I was happy with my form however I want to improve next year."
Divesh Kumar won the first nett prize with a score of 66. Shamal Narayan was second with 69 while Ratu Meli Matairala scored 71.
Vetaia Sadragu won the B-grade gross with a score of 62. Safaira, Emmanuella and Ryan won the team event.
Ratu Meli won the nearest-to-the-pin prize while Sadragu hit the longest drive.
Tournament co-ordinator Jimmy Luita said a total of 19 junior players competed.
He said some players missed out due to other commitments.
"We would like to thank the NGAF for the sponsorship and NAGC for the support," Luita said.
"The A grade was played over 18 holes while the players in the B grade went through nine holes. There are many upcoming junior golfers.
"We have been conducting clinics with the primary and secondary school students in the eastern and western divisions. It is all about golf development.
"All the junior players who come under the program are trained to get to the next level. We plan to carry out more golf development around the country. We have had requests for junior golf training in Vatukoula and Lautoka.
"Our junior golf program is based at the Novotel golf course in Nadi and is managed by the Oceania Golf School.
"We ran smaller tournaments during the year which was sponsored by the OGS."
The OGS will be conducting junior golf clinics at Novotel golf course from December 10-14. The clinics will run from 10am to 12pm.
