ATHLETICS Fiji will open its new season with a one-day competition at the Cathedral Secondary School grounds today.
Athletics Fiji official Selwyn William said the competition signaled the start of their season.
"We always have this competition every year as we start a new athletics season," Williams said.
"The only difference this time is that we will have our competition on grass tracks because the national stadium is closed for renovations."
Williams said events include track, shot-put and discus throw.
"As we will be competing on grass we will not have high jump and long jump events but we'll look at this when we see the ground at Cathedral tomorrow (today)."
Williams said they didn't expect all their top athletes to be at today's competition because this was the first event for season.
"We believe we will slowly attract out top athletes as we go along," Williams said.
Competition starts at 9am.
The first event of the day will be the 100 metres.
