THE Northern Development Program has ushered in much-needed assistance and development for the rural areas of Vanua Levu.

Speaking at the Macuata Provincial Council meeting NDP manager Waisea Tuidama said that in its fifth year of operation in the north, the program had supported 15,812 small business projects.

Mr Tuidama said the people of Vanua Levu were fortunate to have such a program that was part of the government's Look North Initiative.

"The NDP has spent a total of $9.2million on small business projects with 50 per cent of the funds from the project diverted to the development of small business projects in Macuata, 23 per cent towards the province of Bua while 27 per cent was diverted to the development of small business projects in Cakaudrove," said Mr Tuidama.
