TOP sevens clubs Westfield Barbarians and Saunaka have confirmed their participation at tomorrow's Airport 7s tournament at AFL grounds in Old Town, Namaka, Nadi.
Westfield Babas led by former Fiji rep Pio Tuwai is the top favourites alongside Saunaka which has set its reputation in the domestic 7s competition with products such as Ratu Josateki Sovau, Joe Ravouvou, Sela Toga, Joe Toga, Ilaitia Ravouvou and Laisenia Kato.
Tournament organiser Simi Kuruvoli said 24 teams had registered to compete in the day-long event.
He said along with Westfield Babas and Saunaka, former 7s giants Nawaka would also participate in the inaugural tournament.
Nawaka which has produced national reps such as Sanivatali Laulau, Savenaca Aria, Esala Labalaba, Manasa Qoro, Apenisa Naevo and Semisi Naevo in the past will be eyeing to redeem itself this weekend.
"Nawaka was one of the top 7s teams in the past and they will be a side to watch out for in this tournament," Kuruvoli said.
"We also have an Airports team which has former Fiji 7s rep Suliasi Ramasima along with other Nadi reps playing in it.
"They (Airports) look a strong side in this tournament."
Kuruvoli said Yamacia, which was crowned the shield champions at the 2012 Coral Coast 7s, was another exciting team to watch this weekend.
He said Yamacia had services of young and unknown players, who would be out to topple some big guns during the tournament.
Kuruvoli also said other teams registered mostly from the Nadi and Lautoka area would be giving all in a bid to win the $1000 prize-money.
"This tournament is really important to us. We want to set a platform this year so we can continue with this tournament in years to come," he said.
"We request the people from Lautoka and Nadi area to come out in big numbers to back their teams."
