Envoy hails State effort

JAPANESE ambassador Eiichi Oshima has commended Fiji's efforts in progressing towards democracy.

"I am delighted to say that we have witnessed Fiji's efforts and progress for a return to democracy throughout this year," Eiichi Oshima said at a reception on the occasion of the Japanese Emperor's birthday on Wednesday.

He noted the successful completion of the electronic voter registration of more than 480,000 people in August with the second phase in progress.

Mr Oshima also mentioned the efforts of the Constitution Commission which visited and received submissions from around Fiji.

"Those are very positive steps taken by the government of Fiji for democratisation and I believe this will be continued further towards the election in 2014," Mr Oshima said.
