Farmers wary

Felix Chaudhary
Friday, December 07, 2012

DISCUSSIONS over the adoption of Fairtrade Certification and the stringent farming guidelines associated

with the initiative dominated talks at a cane farmers' meeting in Drasa, Lautoka on Tuesday.

Fiji Kisan Sangh assistant general secretary and Fiji Cane Lorry Operators president Mahendra

Prasad said while many growers were enthusiastic to adopt fair trade farming practices, many were wary

because of the challenge to traditional methods that have been the mainstay since the birth of sugar

production in the country.
