THE Lautoka Volleyball Association will start its preparations for the Western Rally Championship with the first training run at the multipurpose courts this afternoon.

The LVA has selected a 60-member training squad for the WRC next year.

The LVA completed its first round of games for the 2013/2014 season last week.

LVA president Timoci Gukisuva said they would hold a knockout tournament this Saturday.

Gukisuva said new clubs could still register for the second round of competition next year.

"The aim from the start of the season was to have an active weekly club competition," Gukisuva said.

"We attracted a few new clubs and business house teams. Now we have a healthy competition with nine men's teams and six women's teams.

"We have also selected our training squad of 30 women's and 30 men's players for the WRC. They will form the core of the two women's and two men's teams.

"We will be having knock-out games this Saturday and next week. This is just to keep the players interested in the sport."

The WRC will be held in Lautoka from January 25-26.
