Lautoka mill ends crushing

Felix Chaudhary
Wednesday, December 05, 2012

CRUSHING at the country's largest sugar mill ceased yesterday, a day before the scheduled termination of crush.

Speaking from London, FSC executive chairman Abdul Khan said continuous low cane supply forced the miller's hand and the decision was made to cease crushing for the season one day earlier than anticipated.

"Cane supply has been an issue for us this season and while we had made a decision to terminate crush at Lautoka on December 5, we had no choice but to terminate crushing on December 4," he said.
