THE national women's hockey side is working on getting the basics right ahead of the FIH (International Hockey Federation) World League Round 1 and Oceania Pacific Cup that will be played in Suva.

The tournament starts on Saturday at the National Hockey Centre, however, both the men's and women's side play their first games on Sunday.

The women's side will face Vanuatu, New Zealand (NZ) Maori, Papua New Guinea, Australia Country and Samoa respectively in the eight-day tournament.

National women's coach Shaun Corrie has targeted wins over Vanuatu, PNG and Samoa.

He said the three countries had improved compared to the past years and could cause upsets at the event.

"PNG and Samoa will source some of their key players from Australia and NZ respectively and Vanuatu will also be tough opponents," the former national rep said.

"The World League is a big event and all countries will prepare well for this and we are also focused on our preparations for it," he said.
