ABOUT 30 women from the Western Division gathered at Nadi on Friday night to mark the launch of the Women in Business (WIB) Awards to be held in March next year.

They also discussed ways to further boost their businesses.

WIB president Dr Nur Bano said the awards night would acknowledge the contribution of women in growing the economy and encourage them to improve their businesses.

Dr Ali encouraged all the businesswomen in the west to enter next year's awards night which aimed to reward women for their contribution to business.

"The awards night is to give recognition to the women participating in the commercial sector whether they be business owners, executive women or managers of business," she said.

"The awards night is to also to bring visibility to the women contributing economically to the business sector and to the economy of Fiji as a whole.

"The benefit of this award is for a better economy, a better Fiji, it encourages women in leadership."

Dr Ali further stated that the WIB would carry out a survey to determine the number of women involved in business.

"Fiji doesn't keep statistics on women in business and for us we want to keep statistics on all women involved in business.

"This is to also encourage other women to get equal recognition as their male counterparts with the objective of making a better Fiji to encourage women in leadership."

The awards night will be held during the National Women's Day on March 9 next year.
