New Zealand trip of a lifetime for Waya students

NINE Class Eight students of Namara Village School in Waya, Yasawa, departed the country on Sunday for a 10-day educational trip to Auckland, New Zealand.

The expedition also includes a leadership workshop at Hastings Intermediate School.

Villager Isikeli Jeke said the trip, made possible through the help of their New Zealand friend, Brian McDonald, would be an eye-opener for the students.

"Mr McDonald visits our village every year. We have given him a piece of land in the village to build his house and that's where he stays when he visits.

"It was through this friendship that he arranged for the students to travel to New Zealand. We will host students from Hasting next August and hope this will turn out to be an annual exchange program," he said. The students are accompanied by two teachers and a parent.
