Success within the Pacific region

Bred Bank Ceo Satish Deb.
Saturday, December 01, 2012

I extend to you a very warm welcome to the opening of BRED Bank's first and flagship branch in Suva.

Governor, thank you very much for honouring us with your presence to open this branch of BRED Bank. We are sincerely appreciative of the guidance, support and assistance that you and your team at the Reserve Bank of Fiji have provided us—from when we made an application for a banking license through to granting approval for commencement of operations today.

You and your team have facilitated our establishment with extreme goodwill, appreciation and kindness.

BRED banque populaire is a significant and strong bank from France. Created 91 years ago, we have 121,500 cooperative shareholders and employs 3,827 people, 357 branches and 905,000 customers in france. It is part of the bpce group - the second largest banking group in france.

BRED Bank also has presence in Bangkok, Djibouti, China, Laos, Vanuatu, New Caledonia and Tahiti as well as significant interests in Bank of Queensland and Bendigo Bank in Australia. BRED's presence in Fiji resulted from its interest, expansion and success within the pacific region.

Fiji presented BRED with the required elements for establishing a banking operation—a good sized and well developed market, a very well established financial system, good communications and infrastructure and human resource capabilities. BRED's interest to invest significant capital in Fiji was of course welcomed and supported and our establishment was facilitated by the government of Fiji and the Reserve Bank of Fiji. BRED was also confident with entrusting its capital investment in Fiji in the hands of totally local management.

We have come a long way in a very short time in establishing a new bank. We are very passionate about BRED Bank because we have created it with a culture and mindset to provide better banking for Fiji and we will conduct our business with that pledge. We will not be just another bank—we will be bold and different.

Our business principle is customer first. In determining our products, services, culture and our presence, we are mindful first and foremost of our customers expectations, needs, wants, and aspirations. We will be innovative and fair. Through this approach and our aims and aspirations, we will strive to bring to you fantastic customer service, convenience in banking, good and simple products and our best offers possible to enable our customers to save on or minimise fees and charges and earn respectable interest and earnings on savings and investments. We will treat your savings, investments and cashflow with the dignity, respect and value that it deserves.

After all, at BRED Bank, its all about you.

Our staff have undertaken a pledge to deliver our services and products to you with empathy, understanding, care and pleasure.

Our branch staff have been carefully selected and trained in the service culture that we consider every customer desires and deserves—friendly, helpful, understanding, and caring. In our culture, we will do all the work, fill all the forms and make banking as easy and simple as possible for our customers. The images that you see in this branch reflect BRED Bank—our aspiration and determination to touch our customers heart with our own. After all, banking is a people business and we will make it all about you.

We know that it's not what we say, but what we do that makes us different and better—in demonstrating that, I would like to announce our promotional offers available to our propspective customers from now:

On our premium savings account, you will not have to pay any monthly service fee or any transaction fee for life (for as long as you maintain the account). In addition, we will pay you the highest interest rate in the market—2.75 per cent per annum on all balances. No strings attached. This promotion offer will continue to Dec, 31, 2012.

We have also set our retail term deposit rates above all other banks.

In addition, our senior citizens get a quarter per cent above the published rates for savings and retail term deposits. We have other benefits for our senior citizens like a dedicated counter and no waiting in queues. We would like to display our respect and apreciation to our elders in this way. We are today releasing the best home loan promotion ever—fixed interest rate of 3.99 per cent for 12 months or 4.99 per cent for 24 months and if your loan is $200,000 or more, approved before or by Dec, 31, 2012 and settled by Feb 28, 2013, you get a free 32 inch LCD TV valued at $900. That is not all, there is no approval fee and no monthly service fee.

We will also consider subsidising solicitors cost. We will fill the forms, we will do all the work—with our hassle free home loan.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a lot to offer and we are only just starting. Our staff will love you and care for you. They will appreciate you.

We will make banking all about you because at BRED Bank, it's all about you.

And while we are a global bank, we are truly local in all respects.

We are your own people.

Thank you very much.

Darryl, a personal thank you on behalf of everyone at BRED Bank, Fiji for your initiative, guidance, support, faith and trust that you have put in us and we look forward to your continued support for Fiji.

And my personal appreciation to Ajay Singh my deputy and deputy CEO for BRED bank Fiji for the time and effort you have devoted in this project.
