LOCAL supermarket chain Newworld Limited became the newest tenants at the Damodar City Complex in Suva after they put pen to paper on a 20-year lease agreement with the Damodar group yesterday.

The lease, will see Newworld establish the country's first Independent Growers Association USA (IGA) affiliated store at Damodar City.

Earlier this year, Newworld Limited acquired Master Franchisee status from IGA and the company says this will see it deliver higher quality goods and services.

"From our association with IGA, we are bringing in IGA products, processes and standards into Fiji," Newworld Limited chief commercial officer Govind Yajurvedi said.

"It will be the only store of its kind in the whole of Fiji," Mr Yajurvedi said.

"IGA sets high standards for processes and standard in grocery business and we will be able to bring into Fiji high quality products from IGA stables," he said.

Mr Yajurvedi said the new store would create direct employment for around 100 people and indirect employment for another 150.

Chairman of Damodar Brothers Ltd Dayanand Damodar said he was happy to sign Newworld Limited as one of the anchor tenants at the new complex.

Meanwhile, around 75 per cent of store spaces in the Damodar City complex had been filled with construction of the complex on track to finish early next year.
