21 months behind bars

Mere Naleba
Friday, November 30, 2012

A 35-YEAR-OLD man has been jailed for 21 months after being found guilty by Magistrate Chaitanya Lakshman of aiding prisoners to escape.

Savenaca Raqauqau, on November 18 this year, assisted escapees Viliame Tuibua, 25, Frank Konave, 21, and Sanaila Tabuavula, 23 to escape from the Korovou Corrections Centre.

The unemployed man of Naicobocobo Rd in Delainavesi was handed a 21-month sentence with a 15-month non-parole period.

The escapees' dash for freedom was short-lived after Tuibua and Konave were recaptured early Monday morning a day after they had escaped from the prison cell, while Tabuavula was apprehended later in the afternoon.

Raqauqau has been given 28 days to appeal.
