Woman beater loses appeal

Salaseini Vosamana
Friday, November 30, 2012

A 33-YEAR-OLD man's appeal against sentence and conviction was dismissed by the High Court in Labasa yesterday.

Jone Masirewa, who represented himself, appeared before High Court judge Justice Paul Madigan.

Masirewa was convicted after a trial in the Savusavu Magistrates Court on September 12 last year.

He was guilty of assaulting his de facto partner and jailed for three years.

Justice Madigan said the magistrate approached the sentence properly.

He said the magistrate gave credit for the plea of guilty and for the remorse and gave proper weight to the aggravating features.
