A big celebration has been planned to mark Nadi's victory in the inaugural Pacific Cup soccer tournament in New Zealand.

The Hot Bread Kitchen-sponsored Nadi team defeated Ba 3-0 in the final at the Mount Smart Stadium in Auckland.

Nadi won the fixture following a penalty shootout.

This was Nadi's first major title win in 10 years.

Nadi Football Association vice-president Mohammed Hafiz said discussions on the celebrations would be held today.

He said Nadi, with new approach this season, had been knocking on the door for a major title. Hafiz said winning the Pacific Cup was a positive sign for the team heading into the new 2012/2013 season.

"The wait is finally over for the Nadi fans," Hafiz said.

"They have been longing for the team to win a tournament for many years. Winning the Pacific Cup is a big achievement. Many people had written this team off in the tournament. All the focus was on Ba. But the boys rose to the occasion.

"We will hold a meeting to plan the celebrations for the team. We want to have a march through town with floats. The clubs will be involved also. We would like to thank our sponsors."

Nadi's celebration is likely to be held this Saturday. The victorious team jetted into the country last night.
