THE Nadro Federal Combined team was crowned winners of the Jo Tubuna Memorial Cup in Auckland, New Zealand last Sunday.

The Nadro Federal Combined team defeated Nasinu Masters of Fiji 2-0 in the final of the New Zealand Fiji Veterans Soccer Association-organised tournament at the Mangere Centre Park Stadium.

NZFVSA secretary Gyanandra Kumar said the final was played at a fast pace. He said Nasinu Masters took control early with Ashwin Chand proving to be the crowd favourite.

"Former Suva rep Intiaz Khan displayed his touches of old days and came close to scoring on many occasions only to be denied by the Nadro Federal keeper Navneet Narayan," Gyanandra said.

In the semi-final Nadro Federal Combined defeated NZ Nadi 4-1 while Nasinu Masters beat NZ Dreketi 3-2.

Nasinu Masters president Sadasivan Naicker was impressed with the level of competition among the veteran teams.

He said Nasinu Masters would feature in the International Veterans Championship in New Zealand next year.

NZFVSA vice-president James Kumar said the tournament was successful through the teamwork of the executives and with the support of various participating team players and officials.
