SIX months ago, Selina Lee-Wah had no idea that the breadfruit tree she planted in front of her house in Labasa would bear fruit in a short period.
Now her family is baffled after the young tree produced eight fruits in the past two months.
Mrs Lee-Wah said they were surprised to notice the rare growth, something they had never witnessed before.
"I bought the tree for $10 from a friend early this year and I never thought it would bear fruit rapidly," she said. "When the tree was growing up, I made sure I talked to it every morning before watering it.
"I was surprised when I saw the fruits because I knew the tree wasn't matured enough to produce."
