Bus fare cards

THE government subsidised bus fare vouchers for students will be substituted with a card system from next year.

This was revealed by Foneology director James Trusler at the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the Fiji Bus Operators Association, Vodafone and Foneology at Walu Bay in Suva last Friday.

About 400 students of Tacirua Primary School will be the first group to use the cards.

"The card will be used instead of vouchers which are currently being used by students," Mr Trusler said.

He said students would find it easy to use as they would only have to tap the card on the terminal and proceed to their seats without a hassle.

Vodafone Fiji corporate affairs manager Shailendra Prasad said they had until next month to complete the finer mechanics of the project.

"We must finish this project this year because come January there will be no school voucher," Mr Prasad said.

He said they were doing their best to meet deadlines before the new school term next year.
