Police hail villagers

Maciu Malo
Wednesday, November 21, 2012

VILLAGERS of Natawarau and Nakavika in Ba were commended for assisting police in the recapture of two remand inmates who escaped from Nadi Police Station last week.

Chief of operations Assistant Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu said the recapture mission was greatly aided by the members of the two villages who came in large numbers to support the search team.

"This is the kind of community partnership that the police force is always looking to strengthen and we truly appreciate the help shown by the members of the village," he said.

Meanwhile, ACP Tudravu has warned members of the public that police would come down hard on those found harbouring escapees.

He issued the warning after a 32-year-old woman market vendor and a 30-year-old contractor of Ba were arrested for allegedly harboring the two escapees, Maleli Sigavinaka and Daniel Thomas.
