Hospital unit upgrade

THE Rakiraki Sub-divisional Hospital's Accident and Emergency unit is being extended, courtesy of a group of businessmen and retired professionals from Fiji's newest town.

Executives of the Cosmopolitan Club in Rakiraki represented by Nandnuri Reddy and Manikam Goundar participated in a groundbreaking ceremony on the eve of Diwali for the extension of the hospital.

"The spirit of Diwali is alive and well in Rakiraki," said Rakiraki's interim special administrator Seini Raiko-Vunivutu.

"When the club members decided to sell their property in Rakiraki Town, they also confirmed that the best use of the money would be for a public service that was urgently needed in Ra thus the extension to the Accident and Emergency Unit at the hospital."

Divisional medical officer Western Doctor Susana Nakalevu said the gesture by the club was appreciated. The works are expected to take two months to complete.
