THE North Chow Games is expected to set new records when athletes take to the field today at Subrail Park in Labasa.
A total of 13 zones from Cakaudrove, Bua and Macuata will bring together about 500 athletes.
Event co-ordinator Lawrence Nikotemo said five zones would come from Cakaudrove, five zones from Macuata and three from Bua.
Nikotemo said they expected a tough competition this year.
"We are not travelling to Suva because the stadium is still being upgraded and that is why we are hosting our own meet.
"The students from Bua and Cakaudrove grabbed gold medals in last year's national meet in Suva so we expect a tough competition this year," Nikotemo said.
He added that Cakaudrove won 11 gold medals and came fourth in the overall grade in Suva.
"So we expect Cakaudrove to put up tough competition at the two-day meet."
