Upgrade to lure tourists

RAKIRAKI has always viewed itself as a region with a lot of potential and one local investor is already doing all it can to attract more visitors to this remote north-western town.

With its eyes focused on the dollars rural tourism could roll in, Tanoa Rakiraki Hotel this week unveiled a new look bar and reception as well as a spruced up restaurant.

The revamped bar is designed to draw long distance commuters or allow those transiting through the sun-beaten western centre to quench their thirst in comfort.

Hotel manager Rameshwari Mani said the refurbishment maintained the colonial look the hotel was renowned for but infused a bit of sophistication and modern design into the outlook of the property.

"We wanted to maintain the unique signature look but at the same time lift the surrounding environment to modern times," she said.
