NIGEL Goundar scooped the main prize in the Diwali Day golf tournament at the Fiji Golf Club course in Vatuwaqa yesterday.

Goundar won the A-grade in the Mahesh Syndicate-sponsored stableford event after amassing 43 points to finish ahead of Mohammed Rafiq, who finished second on count back.

Irish Michael Greenwood, who recorded a hole in one in an earlier event, won the B-grade with 49 points followed by Shalendra Prasad on 42 and Muni Sagayam finished third on 41. In C-grade, Hoi Shun came first with 43 points followed by Conway Begg on second with 40 and Father Vodivodi on third with 38 stableford points.

Rafiq collected the nearest to the pin prize in the 12th hole.

Tournament coordinator Veramu Rokotavaga said they had 98 golfers taking part in the day-long event.

He said early drizzle discouraged other club members from turning up.

"But the weather became fine afterwards and the golfers had a good day at the greens."
