Diwali rush

Salaseini Vosamana
Wednesday, November 14, 2012

THE Northern town of Labasa was a hive of activity as shoppers thronged to stock up for Diwali yesterday.

Shoppers from all over Vanua Levu made use of the low prices and filled up their trolleys with groceries, fire crackers and other food items.

Shopper Ajay Kumar said he intended to buy lots of groceries because his friends and relatives would visit his family.

"Today is the best day for Diwali shopping because most items will be on sale even though the supermarkets are jam-packed with people," Mr Kumar said.

"While some families will be having a simple celebration, we will make sure we organise a big party because this is the only major Hindu celebration every year."
