Top contender at event

NATIONAL rep Anuresh Chandra is a sure starter at the 18-hole Islands Electric Wholesalers-sponsored stroke event at the Lautoka Golf Links today.

Chandra who recently returned from the World Amateur Teams Championship in Antalya, Turkey is one of the top contenders for the event.

His younger brother Amitesh and veteran Khelawan are also in the frontline for the top prize.

The event will be followed by the New Marine and Auto Electrical Services sponsored Diwali Cup Open Championship on Tuesday.

Lautoka Golf Club vice-captain Suren Pillay said they were expecting an exciting clash for the two events.

"The course is in tip-top condition, with the fairways and greens fully mowed. Excellent prizes will be up for grabs in the overall, A, B, C and juniors category with refreshment and Diwali sweets provided for players and the caddies as well," Pillay said.

"Anuresh Chandra has arrived from Turkey and is a sure starter alongside younger brother and NGAF secretary and treasurer Amitesh Chandra and veteran Ram Khelawan," he said.

LGC will be represented by club champion James Krishna, past winners Prem Chand, Raymond Singh, youngster Michael Nair, Christopher Nair together with inform golfers Moh'd Shariff, Gaffar Ali, Vinod Chand and John Krishna.

Pillay added the two events were a build-up to the upcoming 81st Lautoka Open Golf Championship on November 24. Tee off time is from 9-10am today.
