SAVE the Children Fiji is encouraging parents, teachers and guardians to discipline children without the use of violence.
And to encourage the use of a positive discipline approach, the agency held a workshop in Suva this week, hoping to portray the importance of understanding and communicating with children.
SC Fiji's Child Rights manager Sosaia Tapueluel said they discouraged people using the 'reward and punishment' method, where children are rewarded when they behaved or punished when they don't.
"The reason is because it forces the child to focus on their behaviour and not on how it affects other people. They only see the reward and the punishment, therefore they lack empathy in childhood," he said.
