THE Fiji Fashion Week Emerging Designers Show was a great success with over 14 fashion designers showcasing their exquisite international and local designs on the fashion runway.
Fashion designers showcasing their designs were all new, participating for the first time at the Fiji Fashion Show.
Fiji Fashion Week public relations officer Lice Rova said they were happy with the outcome of Saturday's emerging designers show and were happy to report that their judges had a difficult time deciding between qualities of the garments showcased.
She said Fiji Fashion Week was a stakeholder in a larger community of people and organisations working to ensure the development of the fashion industry and the quality of garments shown greatly reflected the hard work done. "The basic criteria for emerging designers are they must not have been in retail for more than 12 months and they have not sold any of their garments in a shop for a year," she said.
"We normally limit the spaces to between 15 to 18 garments for emerging designers because it means we can give each designer the opportunity to showcase their collections effectively.
"Each collection contains 15 garments so any increase in designers means a lengthier show."
Andrew Powell took out the Fiji Fashion Week Emerging Designers Award and the 2012 Designer of the Year Award.
He made a brilliant blend in colours for his summer and cocktail collection which stole the show at the Vodafone Arena last month.
