THE owners of Mana Island Resort and Spa have invested more than $10million in the Mamanuca property over the last 20 years.

General manager Masao Tanaka said the spending included the expansion of the island resort from what it was when it was established in 1972.

"We set up honeymoon bure, built a wedding chapel, an airstrip, our south beach restaurant and a spa for our guests.

"Also we built new rooms and renovated others to give the best to our guests. All together we spent more than $10million on these projects," said Mr Tanaka.

This week the resort celebrated its 40th anniversary.

Mr Tanaka said the resort had gone through a lot of changes to ensure each guest enjoyed their stay at the resort.

"This is why we have a lot of guests from overseas.

"Not only from Australia and New Zealand, we also have those coming in from Japan, China and America."

The resort's latest project was a $1million conference centre that opened in May.

"We have invested a lot of money into the resort but we also know that we are getting good profit for it," said Mr Tanaka.

The recent opening of its conference centre has also attracted a new market to the resort.
