Winning run
THE Naviti II volleyball side continued their winning streak in the Cuvu Volleyball Association club competition last weekend. The challenger trophy holders beat Davetalevu by three straight sets to retain their title. In the women's challenge match, Seni Wi I beat Police Wives by the 3-0 as well to defend their trophy. Competition coordinator Jella Botei expects the two unbeaten teams to continue their run for another few weeks. "The next challenger for the mens will be FD's while Seni Wi II will challenge their main team," Botei said.
Kulawai league
THE Kulawai League is expected to continue until the second week of December. The league is a program to develop women's volleyball in the country. Womens national head coach Kenneth Lidise said initially the league was scheduled to end in October. "We have decided to keep the league running," he said. "This is because we want to keep the girls active." He said the league will not end but go on break in December and resume in January.
Strong team
NATIONAL womens coach Elenoa Kunatuba is expected to field a strong side for the second match against the New Zealand Samoan Womens 7s side this Thursday. On Saturday, the Fijiana development side lost 31-20 at the Uprising Beach resort grounds. After the match, Kunatuba identified some players from the development team that will represent the Fiji 'A' team this Thursday. "The Fiji 'A' team has already been selected, and I have also identified some players that have been promoted to join the senior team," she told fijirugby.com. The Fiji 'A' will take on the NZ Samoans 3pm tomorrow at Buckhurst Park.
Wild winners
Wild Cards won the volleyball Outsiders volleyball tournament in Lautoka last Saturday. The Wild Cards team defeated Culture 3-2 in the final. Wild Cards won 23-25, 25-23, 25-19. The tournament was held at the new Public Rental Board hard court in Natokowaqa.
Games launch
THE Western Primary School Athletics Association will officially launch the FMF Chow Western Primary Schools Athletics final in Lautoka this Friday. The event will be held at the Lautoka City Council chambers. WPSAA treasurer and sponsorship manager Tirani Uluinakauvadra said they were gearing up to host the major athletics meet next week. He said they had received positive reports from the district associations. The Western Primary Schools Athletics final will be held in Lautoka from November 16-17.
