Free textbooks for schools

THE Ministry of Education has started the distribution of free textbooks to secondary schools in Fiji.

Ministry of Education permanent secretary Dr Brij Lal confirmed yesterday that all secondary schools would receive free textbooks apart from private schools.

"The textbooks are for students in all the levels in the secondary school," Dr Lal said.

He warned that schools were not allowed to charge book fees for books provided by the ministry.

"The schools can charge book fees for the books they provide but not for the ones provided by the ministry," Dr Lal said.
