FIJI'S international renown is no longer limited to the rugby field as evident at an annual regional cooking competition.

Hotel chefs from the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa led by Outrigger on the Lagoon's Shailesh Naidu cooked up a storm and claimed the bronze medal at the Pacific Challenge Cup competition this week.

The Fiji National Culinary Team which consisted of incumbent Chef of the Year Arun Naicker and Krisneel Chand also from the Sofitel Fiji was narrowly beaten by Australian and New Zealand counterparts.

Sofitel's executive chef and Fiji Chefs Association spokesman Brendon Coffey said the Fiji National Culinary Team returned from Vanuatu this week where they competed in the Pacific Challenge Cup. "The Fiji team took third place overall after being narrowly beaten by our Australian and Kiwi neighbours," he said.

Next on the culinary agenda is the Moffat Fiji Salon Culinaire which will be held this weekend at the Fiji National University campus in Namaka.
