A Nawailevu native has won the $98,000 Kia Sorento vehicle through Vodafone's Kia Motors Promotion.

Simione Rokosivi, 42, a digger operator in the Nawailevu Bauxite mine, was handed the keys of his brand new Kia Sorento by Vodafone general manager sales and marketing Sanjeewa Parera at Vodafone's Sale shop in Labasa Town yesterday. Mr Rokosivi said his adopted niece sent texts towards the promotion which led to the win.

"My niece whom I had adopted when she was small, was the one that texted to the competition from my mobile phone.

"While I didn't care much for what she was doing; I did not believe in lucky chances ever happening," he said.

"I am a digger operator in the Nawailevu Bauxite mine and my first reaction when I was first called up by Vodafone sponsorship manager Mr Liga Gukisuva, was what could be wrong now.

"He laughed and told me that nothing was wrong but I was to meet him today at the Labasa Vodafone office," he said.

Mr Rokosivi said he could not believe what he heard when he was told that his number came out winner in the Kia Sorento promotion.

"I thank Vodafone, my niece and all my lucky stars for giving me this, something that I had hardly expected and it tells us that things are possible with Vodafone," he added with a laugh.

Mr Parera said in the 18 years of operating in the north, this was the first time such a big promotion was ever won by someone in the north, which was unique.
