RESIDENTS of Wailea settlement in Vatuwaqa can look forward to enjoying a river that does not emit stench and sewage
This was confirmed by the Water Authority of Fiji after attending to an overflowing sewer line that led to sewage flowing into a river that ran through the settlement.
"Our team discovered that the manhole lid was allegedly removed," said WAF's communications officer Kelera Serelini.
"A number of sewer manhole lids have been removed for scrap metal which is an issue the authority is trying to tackle.
"However, please be advised that our team has resolved the issue on the sewer complaint from the weekend," she said.
The Fiji Times was notified over the weekend by resident, Ram Samaru, of an overwhelming stench emanating from the river and the surrounding area.
Mr Samaru said it was difficult to live every day with the smell which needed to be fixed.
