A FORMER human resources manager has pleaded guilty to one count of bribery.
The case against Vakacegu Kalou by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) was called before Magistrate Janaka Bandara in the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday.
Mr Bandara heard that the man accepted an advantage of $900 from Vusoni Sarakibau, the business director of Profile Production Company and $500 from Paula Basoga of Petro Sound Engineering Limited while working for Basic Industry Limited.
These were accepted on the account of awarding the two companies contracts for the provision of lighting services and sound system for the Sports and Awards Night that was to be held at the Vodafone Arena on November 3, 2012.
FICAC prosecutor Rashmi Aslam told the court that upon receiving information from a complainant, investigations were carried out where they managed to recover the money.
In court, Mr Kalou understood the charges against him. He told the court that being arrested by FICAC was a turning point for him. He asked the court for forgiveness and said he was "extremely" sorry for his actions. He has been remanded in custody and will be sentenced on November 9.
