SPECIAL medals will be awarded to the winners of the FMF Chow Western Athletics finals in Lautoka next month.
The medals will be flown in from Australia for the two-day meet.
Western Primary School Athletics Association media officer Tirani Uluinakauvadra said they wanted to make this year's event special.
He said former primary school athletics champions Ra would be making a strong comeback.
"The new look Ra team is serious about claiming their champion tag in primary schools athletics," Uluinakauvadra said.
"They have a total of 42 schools participating this year. So Ra has the biggest number of schools compared to any other participating districts."
"The preparation for the Chow western finals is going well according to plan. All Districts have completed their meets. They are all gearing up to face each other come November 16.
"As organisers, we are preparing the stage well. This year's event will go down in the history books of athletics in the Western Division as special medals have been ordered from Australia to reward our champions."
Teams from Ra, Tavua/Vatukoula, Ba, Yasawa, Lautoka, Nadi, Nadroga and Navosa will participate in the western competition which will be held at Churchill Park from November 16-17.
This year the national primary schools athletics meet will be played in three venues because of the closure of the National Stadium in Suva for major upgrade works.
