MINISTER for Women Doctor Jiko Luveni has called on provincial and district administration offices around the country to support and rally behind the development of women in their provinces.
The call follows claims from the Soqosoqo Vakamarama group in Taveuni on the lack of support from the district office and the provincial office on the island towards the development of women and other projects that women on the island participate in.
Taveuni Soqosoqo Vakamarama representative Volau Yavalanavanua claimed the two offices were hindering the progress of development for women on the island especially in failing to support them in their attempts to hold meetings and workshops at the women's centre at Waiyevo.
When contacted Dr Luveni said she was away in Korea but would immediately look into the matter as soon as she returned.
District officer Taveuni Peni Tora denied the group's claim, saying that his office was always open to women as he encouraged and supported the development of rural women.
