Tailevu Naitasiri was crowned the 2012 Fiji Sun/GP Batteries Premier Division Champion yesterday.
Tailevu Naitasiri beat Taveuni 4-1 in penalty kicks during the third leg of the playoffs at Subrail Park in Labasa.
The win now sees Tailevu Naitasiri take on Super Premier bottom side Tavua in a promotion-relegation
After full-time and extra time, Tailevu Naitasiri and Taveuni were locked 0-0.
The match went into the dreaded penalty shootout.
Tailevu Naitasiri successfully kicked four goals from Jale Vota, Kaliova Tivulu, Shelveen Prasad and Ravinesh Karan Singh.
Taveuni's lone goal was scored by Melvin Kumar
Tailevu/Naitasiri coach Tagi Vonolagi said his team played well although no goals were achieved after 120 minutes of play.
"Our win is a blessing from God and we have been champions of this premier grade for three years now," Vonolagi said.
"The boys played well and we know we still have to improve in some areas before taking on Tavua next week," Vonolagi said.
"We had no sponsor to bring us to Vanua Levu and the team had to fundraise for our trip.
"It has been a challenging preparation for my team so we are glad we came out winners."
Taveuni coach Billy Hussein said his boys missed a lot of scoring opportunities.
"It was a good game and one team wins while the other loses. We will now prepare for next year and an area we need to pick up on is fitness.
"Our boys travelled from Taveuni and the support from our families, team management and medical team has been good," Hussein said.
