Baby is dead; charge likely
The body of 15-month-old Petero Qauqau who went missing from his home in Naqeledamu Village, Tailevu last Thursday was found by police in a swamp near the house yesterday.
Police believed he was killed.
Director of the Police Uniform Branch, Senior Superintendent Sateki Umu, who headed a 20-man police search squad, said several people were being interviewed about the death.
One or more people were likely to face charges.
Umu said the body was found just after midday in the swamp about 150 metres from the house, which was secluded from other houses in the village.
Highway smash
kills one
A 35-year-old Suva house girl died on a road accident on the Suva-Deuba highway near Naboro Prison Farm yesterday morning.
Another woman, the driver of the van which ran off the road and crashed into the embankment was seriously injured.
The woman who was killed was Litia Mara and the injured woman was Viniana Kaloumaira, 37, a careers officer with the Ministry of Education.
