SCOOPING five awards during the school prize-giving ceremony was something 19-year-old Kalivate Uluikadavu did not dream of achieving this year.

Kalivate Uluikadavu was awarded the dux, responsible student, top scorer for math, accounting and computer studies awards at Laucala Bay Secondary School yesterday.

The lad from Dakuni in Beqa encouraged students to work hard and prioritise their studies.

"It was through hard work and dedication that I was able to get these awards," Mr Uluikadavu said.

"I had always received second prize during my years here and to receive the dux award in my last year is indeed an accomplishment.

"My parents are really excited because they have worked so hard in getting me through school especially since both of them are unemployed.

"My parents sell at the Suva market in order to put their children through school and through their commitment I have been able to receive all these awards."

He said he had sacrificed a lot in the past in order to get somewhere with his education.
