WITH the theme "Education — A Child's Right for a Better Future", organisers of the Adi Salusalu Carnival are reviving the scholarship fund for the children of Ba Province.
Yesterday, the people of the Ba turned up in numbers to mark the beginning of the week-long fete.
Apart from the show of support from iTaukei, the festival was also supported by members of the business community, government departments and the Lautoka City Council.
Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama, while officially opening the carnival yesterday, commended the objective of the carnival to raise money to fund scholarships for tertiary students from the province.
Commodore Bainimarama said the carnival was also another way to bring the people of Ba together and work towards achieving the objective of the carnival.
Adi Salusalu festival working committee co-ordinator Sakiusa Naivalu said including other races in their celebrations marked a new beginning for the festival.
"We wanted something different this year, something that will go in line with government's efforts to include all races under the same name which is to be called a Fijian."
