FORMER Fiji swimmer Carl Probert and renowned physiotherapist Cathy Wong have been named the Team Fiji general managers for the 2013 Pacific Mini Games in Wallis and Futuna.

Announcing their appointment yesterday, Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) president Vidhya Lakhan said the duo had been part of Team Fiji at various international events in the past.

He said they had the required experience to assist Team Fiji Chef de Mission Alini Sovu in preparing the national side for the PMG.

"They have the considerable experience in games management and they have been part of the various games which Fiji has taken part in," Lakhan said.

Wong has been involved in sports since 1993 joining FASANOC as the secretary of its medical commission.

She has accompanied Team Fiji to the Commonwealth Games and the South Pacific Games and Mini Games in the past.

Probert, who is the chairman of the FASANOC Athletes Commission, will be working with Team Fiji prior to the games only.

"As a member of the Pacific Games Council, Carl would have PGC commitments during the Games time," Lakhan said.

"Carl was also recently appointed as Team Fiji's Chef de Mission for the 2014 Olympic Youth Games, to be held in Nanjing, China."

Probert has been representing Fiji in swimming from 1988 to 2011 at Oceania Championships, SPG, Commonwealth Games and five Olympic Games.

He was the Sportsman of the Year in 1996.

Fiji will participate in all the sports played during the games which include athletics, weightlifting, rugby 7s, tae kwon do, beach volleyball, volleyball, sailing and va'a.
