Sevens action at St Mary's event

ORGANISERS of 2012 Mount St Mary's 7s tournament in Nadi expect some top sevens actions when the elimination rounds of kick-off this morning.

Tournament organiser Dominiko Bainidawa said most of the seeded teams had made it to the eliminations and he expected some good battles this morning.

Bainidawa said top teams Red Rock 1 and 2, Mala Young Boys, Black Rock, Sabeto, Duiyasana and Korolaulau Yamacia from Sigatoka had secured spots in the eliminations.

"The competition has been tough in the first day and we expect it to move up to another level when we start with eliminations," Bainidawa said.

"The competition has attracted sevens fans who want to see some top action from teams like Red Rock, Mala Young Boys, Sabeto, Naviti, Korolaulau Yamacia and others.

"I'm calling on all sevens fans in Nadi, Lautoka and the nearby areas to make an effort to come out and enjoy some top sevens action today.

"This tournament is the start for our sevens season here in Nadi and teams have used our tournament to test their combinations before future tournaments."

Bainidawa said tournament had improved from strength to strength.

"In the first tournament we only had 16 teams but this year the interest has grown and we have 24 teams participating, " Bainidawa said.

"I believe we will continue to build up our tournament in future and looking at the interest this year we could increase the numbers of teams in next year's tournament."
