Power blackout

THE power supply in the greater Suva area was disrupted yesterday afternoon as a result of two faults to the Fiji Electricity Authority's 33,000volts underground cables. Authority chief executive officer Hasmukh Patel said the power was restored to most areas after the faults were identified and isolated.

The power went off in the capital city four times yesterday. Concerned members of the public voiced their disappointment, saying the FEA needs to explain.

"The FEA has alternative cable routes to supply the greater Suva area in the event these cables fail," Mr Patel said.

He said teams were out last night to locate the cable fault. "The FEA apologises for any inconvenience caused to our valued customers," he said.
