Taveuni in for a shot

THE Taveuni team faced an early setback ahead of the deciding Fiji Sun/GP Batteries Viti-Vanua Levu Playoffs leg this Sunday at Subrail Park in Labasa.

The Billy Hussein-coached side will face Tailevu Naitasiri in the do-or-die clash to remain on track for a shot at the top flight.

Both teams had won a match each and the winner of this deciding leg will play the promotion/relegation series against Tavua.

Hussein said they would not have the services of four of their secondary school players, who were tied with major examinations.

Vineel Naidu, Ravnit Goundar, Samuel Nair and Apenisa Ciwa are preparing for Form Seven exams, which starts next week.

Despite the setback, Hussein is optimistic of the team's chances in the match against the highly fancied opponents.

T/Naitasiri defeated Taveuni in the Courts Inter District Championship (IDC) premier division final 2-0 earlier this month at Govind Park in Ba.

"We have also lost some key players to injuries but managed to get some new ones in the squad for this match," Hussein said.

"We had problems with camping in Taveuni so we came to Savusavu today (yesterday) and will be moving into proper camp in Labasa by tomorrow (today)."

The match will kick off at 2pm.

Entry is $2 flat.
