Tavua wins in NZ

NEW ZEALAND'S most capped national league player Adam Cowan helped Tavua win the 19th NZFAFC Inter District Competition in Auckland last weekend.

The Tavua team featuring Aaron and Sandeep Singh defeated Rewa 6-4 in a high scoring final.

A host of current and former Fiji district reps featured in the tournament.

In the quarter-final Lautoka with Pita Rabo, Damien Gock and Fiji Under-20 rep Shameen Basha beat the Shalen Lal captained Rakiraki which also featured national goalkeeper Akuila Mataisuva.

Tavua beat Nasinu in their quarter-final fixture. Rewa featuring Waisake Sabutu beat Ba while Nadi with Emori Ragata, Nitan Kumar and Valerio Nawatu defeated Suva 3-0 in the other quarter-final.

Suva had the services of Apisai Smith and Eliki Ravosai.

In the semi-final Rewa beat Lautoka 3-2. The other semi-final between Tavua and Nadi was interesting. Tavua defeated Nadi 4-3 in extra time. A total of three players were shown the red card in the match. Nadi's Nawatu and Nitan were sent off along with Tavua's Varun Pooni.

New Zealand Fiji Veteran's Soccer Association co-founder Iliyas Daud said the next tournament would be the Girmit Cup which would be held at the Centre Park in Mangere in November.

The Girmit Cup will be held from November 22-25.
