RETURNING and new players in the Digicel Fiji sevens squad were impressive during the team's fitness test at the HPU gym in Laucala yesterday.

Coach Alivereti Dere, who has done a wholesale change to the national side for the next leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series in Dubai, was impressed with the performance of the players during the beep test.

He said the results from the trainers were the testament of the players' commitment to training program given to them in the beginning of the season.

Former skipper Setefano Cakau, who is back from playing rugby in Sri Lanka, was outstanding along with returning Timoci Vakadranu.

Missing from the fitness test were Fiji 7s captain Levani Botia, Joji Ragamate, Ilai Tinai and Alipate Raitini.

The four have been excused since they are with the Timoci Wainiqolo-coached Wardens team in Australia to play in the Central Coast 7s this weekend.

The second leg of the series will begin at the end of next month with Dubai 7s, followed by the South Africa 7s, a week later.
