TWO people are dead after the vehicle they were travelling in was involved in an accident on Nakorosule Rd in Vunidawa yesterday.

According to police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro, the 32-year-old driver was taken in for questioning.

She said in a statement, the carrier tumbled twice after the driver allegedly lost control of it. Two passengers, a farmer aged 58 and another aged 48, of Nawaisomo Village in Naitasiri, were pronounced dead on arrival at Vunidawa Hospital. Of the total eight passengers, three suffered injuries and have been admitted to the hospital. There was no word on the remaining three passengers.

In an unrelated incident, police are awaiting post mortem examination results of an Asian man who died after he was involved in a brawl in Suva at the weekend. Ms Naisoro said until the police received the post mortem examination report, they would not be able to press charges against a 32-year-old whose in custody.

"We have a suspect in custody and we will only lay charges against him once we receive the full post mortem examination report. The victim was rushed to hospital on Sunday and died on Monday. We brought the suspect in for questioning on Tuesday."
