VETERAN Fiji sailor Grahame Southwick retained his All African Hobie 16 Championships title after an outstanding weekend of sailing in Tanzania, East Africa.

For the second year in a row Southwick cruised through to victory in conditions similar to that in Fiji. Southwick said 40 boats took part in the race.

"14 African and European countries entered teams in the 40 boat event and Fiji was the only Pacific region entry," Southwick said.

"It was great racing over the 10 days of competition with warm temperatures and good wind similar to Fiji conditions," he said.

Southwick won nine of the 12 races during the race.

"Certainly everyone knows where Fiji is now as the event was televised throughout Africa and Europe," he said.

Southwick said after the competition many of the competitors were now thinking of coming to Fiji to take part in the TOTAL Fiji Hobie Challenge.
